kemalasan melanda

it has been 2 weeks since my last update.

Tired, lazy, and God knows how many buka puasa event i went. All the places i've been this past Ramadhan and they were good.

Even just now, i had a buka puasa with friends at Yanti's in Subang Parade. RM 30 for a decent buka puasa buffet! No pictures though because we are in the midst of submitting a tender, hence the lack of updates in my blog... what to do, have to cari makan!

I will be leaving for hari raya next week and most likely will be unreachable and probably because i don't have internet access... hahaha.

Adios!

Carnaval Chusas..chusrascr... Churrascaria!

Yesterday was a long day in the office. I was going home late as usual because of work and the guys decided to eat out yesterday. They were discussing where to go for buka puasa... and the name Carnaval was recommended by a colleague. She said you must go there!

Being a simple creature of Food and Women, we obliged!

Turned out we had the most wonderful time at Carnaval. The place was quiet and had a nice 80's atmosphere with simple decor and brazil pictures hanging on the wall.

When we arrived, the manager (an elderly chap) would greet us and ask if it is our first time. Like a bunch of virgin newly weds, we replied. He would then explain on how the restaurant operates and how to enjoy yourself. It is definitely worth to listen to the old man!

The food was amazing. I never thought Brazilian BBQ can be so mesmerizing and wonderful (minus the brazilian hostess). The food was painstakingly prepared to retain the authentic taste of Brazil and to offer the best in Brazil dining for us (minus the brazilian hostess). It was another level of dining yesterday. The food prepared was healthy food, no MSG, none of the meat tenderizers. All i can say was WOW! (minus the brazilian hostess)

There is no menu available. What they had was a half buffet (clear the salad bar) and a full buffet (clear the salad bar AND their meat selection). The salad itself had about 18 dishes. Brinjal, lady fingers, salad coleslaws, rice... to many to write down and remember!

The chefs will make their rounds bringing with them the meat selection one at a time for you to pick. And the food just keep on coming. We had everything that was brought forward to us. The lamb, meat, chicken, garlic bread with sour cream just melts in your mouth. The fish, goes well with bbqed pineapple and the assorted salad bar with fried brinjal and pasta, vegetables and onions. It really complemented the whole dining experience.

We came expecting nothing and returned as happy men!

I didn't have a camera with me, except for my lousy 2MP on my phone. The picture didn't do justice to the food so i'm not going to post them.

This little experience was RM 150++ for the 3 of us. (about 50+ each).

Great place to hang out with friends and just enjoy food, BBQ style!

August

August is a very meaningful month to me, why?
  1. My wife's birthday
  2. My 2nd daughter's birthday
  3. and of course, Independence Day - Malaysia is celebrating 51 years as a nation!
So apart from feeling patriotic and such, my poket also kopak la this month! Hahha... I bought my wife a Nikon D60 with 18-55 VR lens. Her Olympus Mju700 went south during last years' Raya... My wife likes to take pictures and she really cherished her Mju700, so takpe aaa...janji dia suka, and nothing makes me happy than seeing my wife happy (now if only i can persuade her to let me buy a Lancer GT! -- Miahahhah!!!)

For Najah, i bought her a box of Fisher Price shape box. Seems like a bit to late for a box of shape sorting but i really don't know what to give her. It seems that children nowadays are far more advanced in terms of understanding, environment and expectations... so takpe la, she seems to be brave and don't mind a little dirt on her face. Maybe i'll buy her a Lego next time!

We had a little gathering before puasa for the family and also celebrate Najah's birthday while we're at it! Kak Duna and her family was there, Gandma and Yai Wak, Yai Soud and Tatabu, Kak Nina and kids... we had lots of fun. Loads of pics were taken with the aforementioned camera... ~tu dia, teruih test! Tgk at my wife's blog for that! I'm too lazy to upload...

Anyway, Selamat Menyambut Merdeka and to my wife and kids... i love you guys very much!

Gastronomy - Fig & Olive, Sunway Pyramid

Ladies and gentlemen, today we'll discuss a very interesting topic which is dear to all of us. Food!
My family and i and my friends of course, we are a "happy go makan" group, so to speak. We would try different kind of food from different kind of restaurant almost every day of the week.

This week alone is like a plethora of nasi kandar.

Monday - nasi goreng belacan Carrefour Subang
Tuesday - nasi kandar Kudu Bin Abdul, Jalan TAR <- Woo!
Wednesday - rehat... skip lunch
Thursday - nasi kandar kayu Taipan <-- Whoo!
Friday - ...? nasi kandar zainul, PJ? we'll see... <-- Woo!

So for now, i would like to talk about some of the food i've encountered during my makan journey.

Fig n Olive <-- http://www.figolive.com/

Fig & Olive is an upscale, cafe and bistro serving food items representing a blend of European and Mediterranean origins. And i must say the foods are nice. Menus are abundant from appetizers, salads, gourmet, sandwich... you will be spoilt for choice. The food reminds you of the Godfather movies... with the table setting and all... Portions are huge, plenty of choice when it comes to drink, shakes, icecream, coffees, tea, cakes... Foods served there are halal.

Some of the foods are:

Overall the food is nice, the setting is nice, step outside and you get to see the whole of Sunway Lagoon.

The food is spectacular, especialy the rice. My daughters just love them. they actually have an online order form but i have yet to try. Maybe any of you guys can try and give me a holler.

How to get there?

A toast!

As much as i would like to indulge in the happy time topic (~visualize clubs/bars where friends drinking and toasting to each other saying happy this and happy that~) but sadly it's not about that kind of toast. Not even roti bakar!

What i have in mind is actually the Toastmasters International, where a group of people meet and basically talk their hearts out. Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. It is actually a good vehicle to improve your communication skills and your grammar, etc.

Now, i know about Toastmasters for quite some time and have never been bother to actually join them because i consider myself quite a speaker. (And i had the nerve to ask my english teacher what do they do? Drink beer and toast?)

Until today that is. A friend of mine by the name of Zack has been inviting me to join the office chapter. Reluctantly i agree to come as a favor because he said they weren't having enough speakers for today. There i was sitting and not knowing what to expect (Beer toasting kept popping up!). I was the 5th speaker for the table topic session which is a 2 minute session where you are given a topic and basically talk anything related to the topic. I chose "Transmute Gold". I wanted to do teleportation but an earlier speaker chose that and talk about Star Trek. Next was flight but Satish had to pick that and basically put pictures in our head of him in red undies... wahahhaha... so i chose Transmute Gold instead. After my 2 minutes session was done i sat and enjoyed the rest of the meeting.

When it came to the evaluation session, they were recording/keeping count of my Umm and Ahhs. and got 5 of them combined. I didn't realize that and i thought "Wow, i really need to weed these Umms and Ahhs out!". As a token of my silly table topic, i was voted "Best Table Topic" speaker for my version of the midas touch.

Zack cangratulated me for the funny speech i made and said, "if you want to join, just let me know".

I am seriously thinking about it...

plus the food was great!

Here's an update:

Journey to the center of the earth

excellent, the best summer movie. period!
5/5

kung fu panda
good and fun for the whole family, jack Black was hilarious as Po the Panda

The Incredible Hulk
one of the best for this summer blockbuster, basically repaired the mellow version Ang Lee made (it is good as well).
4/5

Get Smart
Funny most of the times, Carrell is really good, Hathaway was hot! Johnson is underplayed, should give him more lines... feels a bit draggy at moments but funny none the less.
4/5

4/5

That's all ...
Enjoy your movie with family and friends!

‘Laser mouths’ leave minister speechless

We Malaysians are known for our hospitality and general ramah-tamah kind of people. However, that does not mean the we would allow ourselves to be pushed around... This is a sign of good things to come. Especially the younger generations...

CnP from The Star and thanks to UltraIman for the heads up!

ALOR STAR: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob was left speechless at a dinner meeting after several leaders started questioning him on his call for Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir to step down as Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chairman.

The youths, most of them Umno and Belia 4B members, were at a meeting held in Sungai Petani on Friday night.

Ismail had said that it was only proper that Mohkzani relinquished his post, as he was no longer an Umno member.

Jalan Badlishah Umno Youth branch chief Ridzuan Omar questioned Ismail’s authority for making such a call.

Well here's the link to read the full story.

minyak dan peninggalan untuk anak cucu

Terkejut beruk la jugak kan bila harga minyak naik sampai jadi RM 2.70/liter (naik 78 sen) dah tu kata nak naik bulan 8, alih-alih tgh mlm semalam naik. Akibatnya rakyat Malaysia yang marhaen dan baik hati ni semuanya menggelabah... panic buying, beratur bagai nak rak isi minyak, in order to save some extra RM 20 for the next couple of days. So best of luck la semua adjust poket memasing!

Peti sejuk, seterika, TV, kipas, dapur malah komputer untuk update blog ni pun pakai elektrik (kalau laptop ada bateri, but still kena charge kan bila dah habis?). Hahhaa...

Bercakap soal financial independence ni, aku rasa la, penasihat kewangan Pak Lah ni (senang cakap, MP, Ministers, ADUN, consultants tkt 4) mereka tak pernah rasa kesusahan golongan kelas pertengahan dan kebawah... aku yg baru je nak rasa jadi golongan pertengahan pun bila minyak naik, otomatik jatuh jadi kelas bawahan balik... ahhaha. Apa kata kita paksa diorang ni semua potong gaji/elaun diorang ni semua sebagai tanda mereka memahami persukaran rakyat? setuju tak?

Wawasan 2020 macam dah dekat... tapi aku tak rasa hidup aku maju... terhimpit? belum lagi... tapi resah adalah, memikirkan nasib masa depan anak2 aku...

Indiana Jones and Them Crystal Skulls!

Now, since i was in Langkawi last weekend, that would mean i missed Narnia Prince Caspian. But i will catch on to it later. I watched the first movie and it was OK by my standards.

Now the real story comes in the form of late 60s Harrison Ford out and about, bull-whipping, dodging obstacles, plane hopping, 3 times it falls, monkeys swinging, kick ruskies rear end and finding aliens.

That's right boys and girls, Indy is on for Close Encounter of the 3rd Kind-ish this time. No Short Round though, i always thought he would make a great alien. This installment brings together Indy, Marion Ravenwood and... hold it... hold it... ready? His son, Mutt Williams (The Beef! - Shia LaBeouf - LaBeouf - Beef, get it? ... nevermind)

The movie is set in 1957 - 10 years after the Roswell crash. It involves Mayan history of the crystal skull, elongated skulls of native Peru, missing conquistadors, which has been carefully wooven together to form a seamless story with action and comedy. A true Indy recipe!

All i can say, the movie is in true Indy fashion. I'm in my 30's now and i still love it. My eldest daughter has just asked me to find the previous Indy movies so she can get to know Indy more and she said she liked it, its funny and scary at the same time - to put in her words. You get the occasional questions by people who are not familiar, but it's part of the fun educating younger audience about the old school cinema magic.

The lady of choice is Dr. Irina Spalko - (Cate 'Hot' Blanchett), and judging by the way she curves her wubble yous, Indy reckons she's from Ukraine, Hah! classic Indy stuff. The movie brought back the joy of my childhood and has actually getting a younger following. Half of the cinema was in their teens and early 20's and we all laugh along in the funny bits and gasps when Indy is in trouble. It's part of the joy of watching a movie in the cinema with people you don't know and agree on something. You can't find that these days. It's a magic long lost in modern cinema.

I am definitely give it a 4/5 stars!

We went to Langkawi!

Our family went to Langkawi during the weekend. It was a welcome break to the hectic schedule that my wife and i've been having for the last few months. Work, work, work... but bills have to be paid, right?! hahhahaaa!

We flew on Saturday morning. Touched down at Langkawi Airport and our Serena was already waiting. We check-in to our rented apartment and within 2 hours of our arrival, we've basically toured the whole island! We didn't stop by any interesting spots, just... drive around the island because we wanted to know how big the island was... and that we did!

We rented an apartment at Bella Vista in Kuah Town... 3 rooms with 3 bathrooms and hot shower, fridge, living room, astro and 2 living rooms was more than enough for our party of 7. The hotel served our purpose, with swimming pool to keep the kids occupied, amenities, foods/restaurants are plenty in the surrounding area.

The next day we start our tour de force of the island. Our 1st stop was Dataran Lang, followed by Mahsuri Mousoleum, Telaga Harbour, Oriental Village. My kids had the greatest time there. They have animal farm where they feed rabbits, took a ride on an elephant. Our last stop for the day was Pantai Cenang. Beautiful scenery, loads of tourists, loads of gift shops, loads of restaurant and you will find the cheapest island tour here. Much cheaper than what is on the internet. If you are a good negotiator, maybe you'll get even lower fare. But due to time constraints, we just spent our time on the beach catching the waves. We head back to the hotel and everyone was tired esp the kids. At night we proceed with our shopping trip, chocolates are plenty, cigarettes, pinggan mangkuk, we bought a few stuff because this is only an introductory trip and we plan to come back for a proper holiday stay. After that we had seafood dinner and just for RM 60++ for the 7 of us. We had fried rice, ikan siakap stim, lala masak thai, sotong bakar, 2 types of veges and drinks.

The cars... owh man! A Mitsubishi Grandis cost around 70++K, even the Lancer GLS cost around the same. It is just too painful to watch so my brother and i decided enough was enough. Hahaha... !

Monday, we packed our bags and proceed to Kuah town again for final last minute shopping and then head straight for the airport. Our plane was delayed and we arrived in KL a little late than we planned. But it was worth while the time we spent together as a family.

Honey, we should do this more often!

tolong la tutup henfon kol 11 mlm!!

Update: I had a chat with a friend regarding this matter and i find his theory very insightful. the telco people started it! Imagine 1 person fwd 50 SMS to friends and relatives, and the each of the 50 fwd to another 50...!! WoW!!!

So sapa MetroTV ni? Kat Google, MetroTV ni dr Indonesia, dah check website dia, takde pun pasal gelombang ni...
  4. mesej kedua ada ayat tambahan jgn letak HP kat kepala... abis tu letak HP kat lutut kot baru betul!

Next time Malaysians.... pls, tolonglah buat sikit research sebelum fwd bende camni, buat semak mailbox, sms dan IM aku je... kita ni mudah melenting... kalut. Tu jelah komen aku... Ada masalah? Tak puas hati? jawab balik kat ruangan komen!

Speed Racer!

Went to the movie yesterday and watched Speed Racer. Personally, i think the movie is great but it's typical Wachowski, it has flaws in the story. It some how doesn't have any depth. Actors are great and they couldn't have cast any other better, but like i said something is missing. I could get the same feeling when i was a kid watching the cartoon. Probably because it ran for slightly over 2 hours.

To simply put it in words :- "This movie is an effects heavy kaleidoscope of pulsating colors". The colors are simply wonderful, Matthew Fox is cool, John Goodman is cool, Susan Sarandon is cool, Emile Hirsh is okay, Christina Ricci is surprisingly hot!

I'd rate it a cool 4/5.

Go watch it without any expectations and you'll have a blast!

Cool origin movie, suit was cool, Robert Downey, Jr. was cool, Jeff Bridges was cool, cars were cool, ... i'd give it a 4 out of 5.

Best bit: finding out that Obadiah Stane was behind the evil dealings.

Uncool bit: none

PS: Wait till the end credit finish rolling, you will see (highlight to read on) - Sam Jackson as Nick Fury Director of Strategic Homeland I... err... SHIELD.

Summer is just around the corner - not really!

Is it just me or is everybody is thinking the same thing? According to our Gregorian Calendar,

In North American-printed English-language calendars, based on astronomy, summer begins on June 21st, the day of the summer solstice and ends on the day on September 20th, the Autumn Equinox. - Source Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer

But having no experience of summer (duh!), we generally associate it with the start of the summer movie blockbuster which starts as early as End of April/Early May. And this year is no different.

So here's the list of movies i'm planning to watch this year and it goes something like this...

  1. Iron Man- May 2nd - Big fan of the comic.
  2. Speed Racer - May 9th - Go speed racer, go speed racer, go speed racer go!
  3. Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - May 16th - Looks promising
  4. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - May 22nd - Excited to see Shia and Harrison Ford talk smack!
  5. You Don’t Mess With The Zohan - June 6th - I doubt it will make it to Malaysian cinemas..."Welcome to the Hezbollah hotline...".
  6. Kung Fu Panda - June 6th - Jack Black, nuff said.
  7. The Incredible Hulk - June 13th - Trailer looks exciting and Liv Tyler.
  8. The Happening - June 13th - If M. Night pulls another Village stunt, i swear i will never see any of his movie in the cinema again!
  9. Get Smart - June 20th - Dwayne Johnson, Anne Hathaway, nuff said!
  10. Wanted - June 27th - Angelina Jolie, nuff said!
  11. Wall-E - June 27th - PIXAR movies are amazing!
  12. Hancock - July 2nd - Will Smith plays a super hero with a name like Hancock? Enough to get me to the movies!
  13. Hell Boy II: The Golden Army - July 11th - Selma Blair, nuff said!
  14. The Dark Knight - July 18th - Big fan of the comics and the death of Heath Ledger will further mystify his portrayal of Joker!
  15. The X-Files 2 - July 25th - Gillian Anderson, nuff said!
You can do a Google for the trailer as i'm too lazy to paste it here, but you can find most of them from Apple's Website. Please be aware that the dates may change, so keep your toes up and see you in the movies!

ps: there is actually a movie with the title "Young People F--king" - NSFW

A new SAGA begins!

UPDATE: Just launched at 530 pm today

To kick start the car industry for 2008, Proton will be launching a new car to replace the ever faithful SAGA.

So far Proton has been doing a good job lately. Most cars that came out has very minimal issues with the customer. Even som eof my Proton-bashing friends has been quite impressed especially with their persona models.

For those of you who missed the roadshow yesterday at Cineleisure Damansara head on to Paul Tan's. Loads of articles and spyshots of the new SAGA here. He's been doing very excellent coverage of the events of BLM.
Below is the indicative price for the new SAGA, also swiped from Paul's website. (What will i do without him?). Have fun and start heading for the showroom!!! Wahooo!

Can't access Yahoo! and some other sites...

Update: service restored around 520pm.

Now IM is a cheap and good way of communicating with one another. I've been using YM since as long as i can remember.

But today, i can't access any of Yahoo! services? What gives? Some of my buddies are facing problems as well while others do not. i run a tracert and the hops stops at this IP which my friend sez belong to TMNet.

Any of you guys facing the same problem?

Ah well... there goes another productive day... i need YM for work and to work properly... :(
