X-Men : The Last Stand

I missed my free show yesterday because KL was hit by heavy rain and the road was congested... sigh...

Anyway to sooth my sorrow, i brought my wife and daughter to see X-Men : The Last Stand at 2 pm today.

Lets start with the review... As the title suggested, it is their last stand! I kinda miss the first 5 minutes because my daughter wants popocorn and the line was so slowwwww... but anyway, the team was battling a sentinel, (in the war room of course) when i heard he mutters the now famous quote "The whole world is going to hell and you're just gonna sit there?" fine to say that the team defeated the sentinel robot via a flying Wolvie courtesy of Colossus.

Meanwhile Scott is still greiving the loss of Jean, he took it real hard and James Marsden really played the part well... he looks scruffy and tired and in despair. After exchanging words with Wolvie ride up to Alkali Lake when suddenly Jean appear out of no where... or is it The Phoenix... At this point the movie started getting interesting, with the announcement of the cure by Worthington Labs, we get to see Angel for the first time.

From then on all hell broke loose, Scott gets killed off, then Prof X got blown to smitherines all courtesy of Pheonix.. er Jean,.. err.... Magneto started planning on using Jean and forms the brotherhood of mutants to start an offense against the cure.

We get to see some major character gets a major revamp... this will be pretty interesting to see whether they will continue the franchise since the revamp involves most of the major characters.

Characters get killed:
  • Cyclops
  • Prof X
  • Jean
  • and loads of no names mutants

Characters get cured:

  • Rogue
  • Mystique
  • Magneto
  • and loads of no names mutants
Towards the end, the x-men survived and so are their enemies.

Not exactly going out with a whimper, "X-Men: The Last Stand," the closing installment of the commercially and critically successful Marvel movie franchise, still fails to generate the satisfying bang created by the first and the second films. probably because Bryan Singer left and Brett Ratner has taken the director's chair. The X-factor is lacking in Singer's absence. The movie is somewhat very fast-paced and didn't indulge more on the characters.

Visual effects are very creative and superb -- notably the dramatic repositioning of the Golden Gate Bridge and a rather extreme makeover of Jean's home.

Congratulations Taylor Hicks!

Taylor Hicks won the American Idol 5...

he proved himself with each performance that he is the man!

Katharine is great to but like Randy said "you are better than the song" which hampered her chance for a win during the show.

Anyway they are all great - Bucky, Chris, Elliot, Paris and the rest. May you have success for your future.

Congratulations Taylor!!

Caution! - Wild Animals

Today, my family and i went over to our local cinema and watched OVER THE HEDGE. It stars Bruce Willis, Gary Shandling, Wanda Sykes, William Shatner, Avril Lavigne...

The story starts with RJ (Willis) trying to get a packet of cheese cracker from a vending machine... to much of his dismay, the packet didn't fell to the hole (Everybody have faced this situation one way or the other - something has to be done about them vending machine makers!!!)

Okay, so RJ decides to steal food from Vincent (Nick Nolte) a big time bear. Vincent is in hybernation and has about 1 week to go, but RJ got caught instead. So Vincent sez that in a week, get back everything that was lost or get eaten.

RJ them stumbles upon a family of hibernators as well. Verne the Turtle, Hammy the Squirrel, Stella the Skunk, Ozzie & Heather the oPossum and a family of porcupine. The family is in panic because their lovely forest is now a housing estate. It escapes me though that... do animals hybernate for like a year? I mean it takes 1-2 years to build a complete housing area in Malaysia... maybe things work a little faster at the states... hehehhe....

So the family is worried on how to gather food and RJ hatches the perfect plan to save his hyde... by utilising the scared family to gather all the food and finally snatch the food from them...

The story is loaded with good values like greed, being in a family... and the animation is cool to with lots of memorable lines and scenes.

This movie is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than The Wild and Ice Age 2... so bring your kids and loved ones... family and friends... grandpas and grandmas... It's a good family fun movie...

Poseidon vs The Rogue Wave

I watched Poseidon a couple of days ago (Tuesday exactly), and it feels that summer movie has finally starting to excite me!

The movie started with everybody having a good time playing poker, celebrating the new year on the massive god of the sea, POSEIDON. We have the colorful bunch of people on board. Ramsey (Kurt Russell) a former Fire Fighter and NY Mayor is on board with daughter Jennifer (Emmy Rossum) whose decided to marry his boyfriend Conor (Jimmy Bennett) and picked a hell of a time to tell daddy. Then we have Dylan (Josh Lucas) who is a professional card player trying making the big bucks, Elena (Mia Maestro) who is a hitchiker trying to get to NY to see her sick brother...

All is well, we see Captain Bradford played by Andre Braugher (haven't seen him in a while...) toasting happy new year with Fergie (of the black eyed peas... and i mean huge jugs... :D) in the main hall with all the guests, when the wave hit them completely turning the Poseidon upside down. Our main protagonists started scrambling for dear life trying to flee the ship against the captain's good judgment... which is wrong... hahaha...

Make no mistake my friends, this movie is full of action. We can see the efforts that they put in trying to escape their doom. Russell is his usual cool self. Josh was not bad, Emmy was cute... and so on...

Except towards the ending we can see where the sacrifice that had to be made... the anguish, the decisions... it's basically Armageddon all over again... nobody can beat Bruce Willis in Armageddon and Titanic... without the mushy-mushy stuff.

All in all it's great movie to pass the time... It surely will get your heart pumping for the next summer installment which is The Da Vinci Code...

By the way, Richard Dreyfuss is playing a prominent character... a gay architect... and he lives... shit! I was hoping that he'd die a terrible death!

Rating: 4/5 stars...

Go watch it with loved ones... or your cat...

Bad experience at MBO Warta Bangi

While i was watching MI:3, it seems the operator of the above mentioned theater is operating with little regards to customer satisfaction. Here's what happened;

  1. Movie starts, and behold poor sound system. The sound cameout from busted speakers it seems. Why don't they fix it? Don't they know that part of the experience is the sound?
  2. Half way through the movie, i was scared shitless because a bunch of boys sneaked up under the cover of darkness and move passed me in the dark. I thought JU-ON was passing through... :(, they were talking real loud and started running towards the exit door. After 5 minutes, they repeat the whole process again... it was so annoying!!
  3. Towards the end of the movie, we heard noises of people chattering, now most of the people watching the movie started to shh the noise... but the noise kept coming and getting louder with stories about someone else's child, her child... what many more. It turned out that voice came from the projector room and it was the voice of the operator (a lady and a few guys).

You might think that given the chance to operate a theater it would be a great chance to make real movey because movies are a sure sale! But in this particular operator's case, it seems that the operator is taking it lightly!

I move a notion to all the people, to not go and watch movies at MBO Warta Bangi! Please spend money watching movie at other cinema!!!

Summer Movies!!

Summer movies started with the launch of MI:3 on May 3rd. Consequently, i missed it until tonight when me and my work buddies skipped work to catch the last show at MBO Warta Bangi. It was a 9:45 pm show and lasted for slightly over 2 hours.

So here's the review.

Movie started with a scene where our hero Ethan Hunt got tied to a chair and was forced to tell the location of "RABBIT's FOOT" or the missus gets it. Yep... that's right folks!!! Ethan Hunt got married and was officially a trainer in IMF and was leaving the whole gun totting life. The count down begins... 10, 9, 8, 7, 6... 1, a shot was fired!

Rewinds back to where the story really begins! Ethan was being introduced by Julia to friends and family and announcing they were getting married. Lo and behold, a call came in and Ethan met up with his superior at a 7-11.

And off he goes to Germany to save agent Lindsey (Keri Russel) which has been abducted and has stumbled upon a plot by a Owen Davian (played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman) which involves the use of a rabbit's foot.

The movie is generally fast-paced with some slow parts which involves lenghty and unentertaining/unimaginative lines and camera work. It feels very dragging and... just... feels awful.

The director, JJ Abrams (of Alias fame) hand is weird... i mean the action scene is cool and very finely shot with breathtaking angles and a matching track to boot. But the movies feels a bit dragging. Maybe JJ Abrams is not the best choice of director for the film. Who know... i'm only a nobody!

Verdict:

Best bit: Seeing Malaysia Airlines logo in the movie in Shanghai. Wahooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! :D
